The Sign Said FREE

We were driving home a few nights ago
and passed a house with a huge box out front
that said

 FREE Rocket Ship
Must Use Imagination

I drove by it, thought about it for a minute
and turned right around.
My family, what are you doing? where are you going?
I pulled up in the drive way and asked hubby to load it up.
And thats exactly what he did.

It took a few days to get the project started.
The kids were sketching out their ideas.
Deciding what name to call it.
It was so cool to listen to them talk about it.

Decisions being made

doors and windows being cut

loving it so far

paint day started
they decided on a green door

they had a blast

worked together

using their imaginations

and enjoying every single moment of it

stay tuned for the finished fort.

We did so much because my mom did not have mcuh money to spend, but I remember running through the sprinkler on a hot summer day or swimming in the little wading pool.

Totally free - my elderly neighbors had an early June apple tree and they told me if I would pick up the rotten apples that fell I could also have all the good ones I could eat while I was doing my "job" plus enough to take home to make a pie so my mother and I always got to make an apple pie whenever I picked up rotten apples.

I grew up with seven siblings so money for summer activities were laughable. We had an old wagon that screamed summer to us! We would take turns pushing one another up and down the street with the handle turned inward so the recipient of the push could use it to maneuver. We may have scarred our knees for life, but the memories and laughter were SO worth it!

I LOVE your designs- and I will post this on my FB page! A childhood memory... spending all day at the beach, coming home all crispy and salty and my mom hosing us off in the back yard before she let us into the house to take a shower, (no sand in the house). I remember sleeping solid after days at the beach, the feeling of riding the waves lulled me to sleep.

I was to young to play with my older sisters who would always lock me out of their room. We lived on a ranch but I was not about to go enjoy being around the horses. (not my thing) Instead I would set up my little cassette stereo outside and make-up dance routines! I dreamed of being a Laker girl...specifically Paula Abdul!

Swimming in our local community pool was my favorite summer memory. We did it every summer... back when I could get a nice tan instead of a scary burn. Oh well. I'd love to give this necklace to my sister-in-law who has three wonderful kids.

What a fun afternoon for the girls. Mine would be in hog heaven with a box and some paint! My favorite memory is always going to a ranch every summer. Loading everyone is our sweet custom van, treking across the Mojave desert at 4am with no ac and having donuts on the way. Horseback riding, cow milking and enjoying getting away from it all. Ahhhhh!

We used to eat Popsicles in our bathing suits on the front porch with all the kids from our block!

I lived in NY growing up and just going to the beach..bringing our lunch and staying there from morning until dinnertime. I remember getting clumps of sand in the bottom of my suit, eating sandy sandwiches, body surfing in the waves and then coming home and taking a cool shower or bath - our skin still warm from the sun. Now I live in the middle of the country and long for those days and sad that my kids don't get to share that experience.

My favorite summer memory...we lived on 8 acres and my dad had a Murray riding lawn mower. He bought a little cart to pull behind it and would tow my sister and I as he cut the grass. We always looked forward to the grass growing.

Oooh, how cool! First for the kind comment about the ball piece (thank you!), secondly because you stopped to follow your gut and pick up a big box (and LOOK at those FAB results - and smiles) and lastly, because you are giving away this beautiful necklace that I would LOVE the chance to wear!
Memory? Slip and slide. Okay, I know it is a one time purchase, but it is SO MUCH fun, no matter your age! Oh, and we are having a lot of fun with sidewalk chalk (wet it first for a paint effect) this Summer too . . .xo

One of my favorite memories was riding our bikes to the 7-11 and getting Slurpees...we always went down the streets that had dips and fun paths to take.
Your necklace is beautiful, thanks for an opportunity. Right now our favorite activity is water/squirt guns. My two year old loves it and I do too!

When my brother and I were little, my mom would watch our cousins during the summer when we were all out of school. To start our day, my mom would have us take turns each day to pick an activity out of a bowl. Whether it was baking cookies, going to the pool, walking to get ice cream...whatever it was to be, we ALL were SO EXCITED! And looking back now, as a mom to my boys, I am amazed at all the energy & love she gave to make our summers memorable. I would love to give her this with her grandson's names on it :)

It was just me so I got to use a lot of imagination. I still keep big boxes for my 4. When young my friends and I rode our bikes, picked mullberries, and slept on the porch overhang to gaze at the stars(and stay cool). The pendent is darling.

This is the cutest thing... If I had a spare big box, I would totally leave it out with a sign like that! What a creative idea! I always loved running through the sprinklers as a kid in summer... or playing in the rain in a monsoon storm.

We road our bikes everywhere all summer long. Pretended they were horses, played bike tag, went anywhere and everywhere.
